The governor made the request at the Benue State government House, Makurdi Wednesday when he hosted the UN delegation led by Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr. Mathias Schmale.
Governor Hyacinth Alia is hosting a delegation from the United Nations with a call on the organization to intervene through the provision of early warning signals and preventive measures that will aide the government in that regard.
Governor Alia who says insecurity remains a threat to the government and people of the state, commends the United Nations for its efforts to resolve conflicts across the world through peaceful means.
The Governor reiterates his administration’s determination to hasten the return of internally displaced persons to their ancestral homes, announces that he has already directed SEMA to put in place a resettlement plan that will also be submitted to UN for support.
While requesting the UN to make Benue State it’s hub, Governor Alia calls for more support from the Organization in the areas of healthcare delivery and training of medical personnels in the state, provision of modern agriculture inputs and machineries to place Benue back on the map as the food basket of the nation. He again mentions the empowerment of women in the state with relevant skills that will enable them become self reliant
